about

Djeli Song features Foday Musa Suso masterfully playing the hypnotic sound of the twenty-one stringed Kora (African Harp). Foday’s sound is at the center of this mesmerizing groove that celebrates the Djeli (aka Jali, Griot or Storyteller) singing praises in Mandingo to the ancestors while honoring the musicians who create the music to dance. I created the initial idea for this song with Foday and Jonathan based on a Mozambican fishing song woman sing after returning from a day of fishing. We developed the rhythm and melody in the studio, and Foday recorded a timeless vocal for the ages.
